Putting the Wunder back into my brows

The Wunderbrow went viral some time ago, I always thought it was an Instagram craze that didn’t really work and something I wasn’t willing to spend my hard-earned money on. How has this changed for me and why have I had a sudden interest? The answer is my friends opinions, they are completely split down the middle. Some of them love the product feeling they cannot complete their brow routine without it and others saying they found it fiddley and hard to get to grips with. Me being me I had to get one and weigh in with my opinion.

Off I popped to Amazon to purchase this potentially amazing / potentially horrific brow gel for a sum of £19.95. I began to think the latter was about to come to life and I was setting myself up for a fail when I realised the Wunderbrow only offers five shades consisting of Auburn, blonde, black/brown, brunette and jet black. Comparing this to the twelve shades offered in the dip brow range from Anastasia Beverly Hills (£19), I wasn’t exactly filled with confidence that Wunderbrow was going to work out for me. Is it possible to cover many different shades of brown brow hair with just brunette as an option? Yet Wunderbrow does promise the “perfect brow in two minutes” and considering my current fifteen minutes or more routine it was worth a punt.

Next day it arrived and I became all the more baffled! Inside is 3g/ 0.15oz of the product, a spoolie and some instructions (which you may as well wipe your butt with but more on that later).

The confusion began when I opened the Wunderbrow and saw that the applicator is a lip gloss style paintbrush and I wondered how I was going to apply the product to the brows without A. making a very messy, not so sharp shape and B. gaining such perfect results in two minutes. This called for UNHELPFUL INSTRUCTION TIME!!

Well the instructions say to apply the applicator to the brows in light strokes to build the shape and effect you wish, the problem is the brush picks up so much product that even if you wipe off some it still too much and the brush is too thick to achieve any kind of shape without making a huge mess and which would be even considered respectable to wear outside. To continue with the instructions it then says to spoolie through and gain desired effect although the product takes nano seconds to dry down. The results being more slug then chic.

Once I had sacked off the instructions and gone it alone I found a much easier way to use, which actually allows you to step outside your front door without scaring the nation. I placed a blob of product on the back of my hand and used an eyebrow brush (M.A.C 263 £16.50 but any eyebrow brush will do) and carefully carved out the shape I wanted before beginning to fill in the sparse hairs. I used the spoolie throughout doing this and overall gained a much better look which to my surprise I really liked, More chic then slug.

The colour matched well to my natural brow colour especially when applied with the eyebrow brush as you have more control over the amount of product and accuracy of application and can build up to however bold you want to go. A quick dry down does mean you build up a good stain to your brows so the shape and colour will last up to two / three days before it begins to fade and it needs removing before you start to scare the public once more. Upon removal you will need to invest in an oil based remover which you will also need for the back of your hand if you choose to apply with the eyebrow brush.

So the big questions, do I use it? and would I purchase again?

I think hell has literally frozen over because my answer is YES! OK you are not going to get your perfect brow in two minutes but can you expect that from any brow product when we can be so fussy with how our brows look.

If you are looking for something that can be added to your normal routine that lasts a couple of days leaving you to continue your life without having to worry about a brow streaming down your face in the rain then I’d recommend trying this. It has become a vital part of doing my brows due to its staying power. It fills in sparse hairs well and as the gel dries it fixes the hairs into place preventing them from sticking upwards or wandering out of the desired shape.
